The Boase Quaich was donated in May 1933 by W. Norman Boase (Club member from 1918 to 1936). It is known as the Boase Quaich but is actually named “The President’s Quaich” so Norman Boase would have been one of the first society Presidents.

The trophy is a silver quaich on top of a wooden base with silver plaques recording the names of the winners. Three additional base layers have been added over the years and a fifth layer is being added in 2025.

It is played for as a singles knockout matchplay competition throughout the season and is presented at the Annual Dinner. It was first won by J. J. MacPhie in 1933.

W. Norman Boase lived from 1870 to 1936 and was Chairman of the Scotch Flax Spinners & Manufacturers Association. He was also a Director of the Alliance Trust Company of Dundee, a forerunner of what would become Alliance Trust PLC. He was made an OBE in 1919, was the Provost of St Andrews from 1927 to 1936, and was Captain of the R&A in 1935/36.
